The latest on a police chase that ended in a deadly crash and a man’s death in Fresno, California, article A man’s car was stolen in Fresno on Tuesday night, police said.
Officers responded to the scene near South Main Street and Broadway around 7:20 p.m. for reports of a vehicle stolen, Fresno Police Chief Troy Nelson said.
When they arrived on the scene, they found a vehicle that matched the description of the stolen car.
The man was taken into custody after a struggle with officers, Nelson said at a news conference Wednesday.
The man was identified as 26-year-old Michael C. Flemming of Fresno.
Fresno police have not released the suspect’s name.
A man who was identified in an online news report as the man who stole the car was later identified as 25-year the suspect, Nelson added.
The suspect, who is in his 20s, was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Nelson told a news briefing.
Police are still investigating how the vehicle was stolen, he said.
Fremont police say that a man who broke into a home on Tuesday, a man had an argument with a woman, and they used a firearm.
The gun accidentally discharged, but no one was injured.
A woman was taken from the home, but later died from her injuries.
Nelson said that a search of the home turned up an iPhone belonging to the suspect and that he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest in California for theft.
Named after the Fresno city where the chase began, the Fresno Police Department said it’s the third fatal collision in the Fresno area this year.
In May, a vehicle collided with a pedestrian on Broadway, injuring the driver and killing a pedestrian.
A woman was shot to death in Sacramento earlier this month.
