— The locksmith who helped Florida lawmakers get rid of the death penalty said it’s a good thing people are trying to keep their homes and businesses secure.
“People want to lock up their homes, but it’s hard when you’re working for somebody,” said Dr. Gary Tisdale.
“You have to be really smart and you have to take it to the next level.”
Tisdale, who specializes in residential security, says most locksmiths will tell you that when they start working, they don’t really understand the concept of the lock down, let alone how to properly do it.
The locksmith said a lot of people in Florida think they know how to lock their homes but they don.
Tisdales main concern is that people have been taking it to a new level, and now they’re getting into more serious lock down issues, he said.
“They’re trying to go to an even greater level.
I mean, it’s becoming an epidemic,” he said, pointing to the number of home break-ins in Florida.”
I think we’re going to see more people trying to use locks, and I think that’s going to get out of control,” Tisdales said.
Tiddal says that’s why he’s so concerned.
He said it took his locksmith about four years to build up to the maximum of 30,000 locks.
He said the process takes months to get to the point where the locksmith can start working on the project.
“It takes a lot longer than I would have thought,” he told CBS Miami.
Tidsdale said he’s been working on locks since he was a teenager, and it’s been his job to help get people out of their homes.
The average cost of a home security system is about $4,500, according to Tisdaly, who works with the National Home Security Association.
Tisdals locksmith estimates it costs about $500 to $700 a year to operate a locksmith service in Florida, and the cost to maintain it is much higher.
He’s also a member of the Association of Home Security Officers.
“We don’t need to have that conversation,” he added.
“You want people to be safe.
And you want to be able to lock your doors and your windows, and you want your doors to be locked when you go to bed at night,” Tiddes said.
